Are you tired of being mistaken for a lawn ornament every time you put on a floral crown? Do you want to look like a bohemian goddess instead of a garden gnome? Well, fear not, because I have a DIY tutorial that will guide you through the process of making a floral crown that will actually make you look cool.
Step 1: Gather your supplies
First things first, you’re going to need some supplies. You’ll need floral wire, floral tape, wire cutters, maybe some ribbon and of course, some fresh flowers. Don’t even think about using fake flowers, because nothing screams “tiny mythological creature” like a fake floral crown. If you’re not sure what kind of flowers to use, just go outside and pick whatever looks pretty. Just make sure it’s not nettle or something like that, because that would be very very bad.
If you have no idea where to get floristry supplies, try a garden centre, a DIY shop, a craft shop, or a local florist.
Step 2: Measure your head
Now that you have your supplies, it’s time to measure your head. You don’t want your crown to be too loose or too tight, so measure your head with a measuring tape. If you don’t have one, use a piece of string and then cut it to the right length. Make sure you don’t stretch it or the measurements will be all wrong and your floral crown will be doll-sized.
Step 3: Start with a base
Next, take your floral wire and create a circular base that fits your head. Make sure to twist the ends together tightly so that it stays in place. Depending how thick or thin the wire is, you’ll want to go round several times so that it’s a bit sturdy. But don’t make it too sturdy or it will be uncomfortable.
Step 4: Add the flowers
This is where the fun begins. Take your flowers and start attaching them to the base using the floral wire. Make sure to wrap the floral wire tightly around the stems so that the flowers stay in place. You can use different kinds of flowers, but try to stick to a colour scheme or one kind of flower so that it doesn’t look like a hot mess (unless hot mess is your whole vibe, then go for it!).
Step 5: Hide the wire
Once you’ve added all the flowers, you might notice that there’s a lot of wire showing. Don’t worry, you can fix that. Take some floral tape and wrap it around the wire, covering it completely. This will make it look like the flowers are magically staying in place. If the floral tape looks kinda ugly, you can cover it with some pretty ribbon.
Step 6: Wear it like a boss
Congratulations, you’ve made a floral crown that won’t make you look like a garden gnome. Now it’s time to wear it like a boss. Put it on your head, adjust the flowers to your liking, and then strut around like the bohemian goddess you are. Just make sure not to trip over your own feet, because that would ruin the whole effect.
