Part 5, and last one for now. I may return in future to this challenge, I had a great time, but I think I’ve got as much as I can from it at the moment.
On the first post I explain everything better. You should start there.
And, as I always say. I’m not an artist, I do this for fun and for my mental health.
Coolors gave me silver this time around. I had mixed feelings. I was excited to use a metallic, but also knew it would be a proper challenge to make it work.
This palette felt a bit random when I got it, but I do love all the colours, and I think it worked out nicely in the end. Trust the process and all of that!
This is palette number 5:
Media: mixed papers, acrylic paint, embroidery thread.
I don’t even know what this thing is, but it’s there, so I guess it is indeed a thing. Yeah, not good. The pic makes it look better than it does in real life.
Media: mixed fabrics, ribbon, sequins, yarn, mercerised cotton thread, metallic thread.
I’m in two minds about this one. I love the top half with the green lines. I hate with a passion the bottom bit, it’s terrible. I already was not keen on the fabric, and whatever I did on top made it worse. The top is great though.
Media: mixed fabrics, ribbon, yarn, sequin, plastic beads, embroidery thread, mercerised cotton thread.
This one is so much more my style. Still a push and not exactly what I would normally do if I hadn’t been limited by materials, but I do like it. Just not very keen on the flowery fabric. I think I’m a subtle patter or no pattern person really.
Media: paper, acrylic paint
Using leftover cutouts, and it shows! I’m being so negative with all of these. But they are just not my best work. I actually do like this one, it’s just not my style.
Media: paper, acrylic paint, mercerised cotton thread, beads, rickrack, glitter, felt tip pens, oil pastels.
I was about to do another mandala when I decided to go in a different direction. I’m very happy with this one. It’s a bit busy, and I would add more repeated elements if I were to do it again, but overall, it was fun and I like the end product.
Media: fabric, beads, ribbon, mercerised cotton thread, fabric flower.
I love this one, but I hate the flower! It took ages to do this one, I just couldn’t figure out how to make it work. I had to leave it for a few days and then come back to it.
Pieces 07, 08, 09, and 10
Media: acrylic paint, mixed papers, plastic beads, fabric, mercerised cotton thread.
Abstract collages! I love doing these things, and I love how they look. Mixed media collage abstract was the big discovery of this challenge. I would 100% put these on my wall had they not been done on crappy cereal card stock.
Pieces 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 (and 16, 17, 18)
Media: mixed papers, acrylic paint, oil pastel, sequins.
I went a bit crazy with these. I think I went a bit overboard with the yellow paint, and they would have turned out nicer it I had been a bit less heavy-handed. But overall, I’m very happy with these.
It’s probably quite obvious from the pieces I made this time around where my interest in art is. I started trying all sorts of things, and I ended focusing mostly on mixed media abstract collage and slow stitching.
This was a great experience, and a fantastic way to make myself explore my interests and push my creativity. I would very much encourage everyone who is struggling with their art or new to it, to try something like this.
